Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland (RAFTS) – River Almond Barriers, West Lothian  

Phase 1 Habitat surveys and protected species surveys to inform an impact assessment associated with proposed modifications to four redundant in-water structures (weirs) within the River Almond. Protected species surveys included otter, bats (activity surveys & roost assessments), water vole and great crested newts etc. In addition to the surveys, other requirements associated with the scheme included a comprehensive report detailing and interpreting the survey findings, impact assessments and European Protected Species Disturbance licence applications and mitigation plans.   

Ministry of Defence – Dalgety Bay Remediation Works, Fife

Designated species bird surveys to inform an impact assessment associated with proposed coastal defences works on part of the Firth of Forth Special Protection Area (SPA). In addition to the twice monthly bird surveys, other requirements associated with the scheme included a comprehensive report detailing and interpreting the survey findings, as well as impact assessment both at a SPA and site level.  

Transport Scotland - A96 Inveramsay Bridge Improvement Scheme, Aberdeenshire  

Surveys to inform a Protected Species license application in relation to badgers and their setts, plus mitigation, which included the design and construction supervision of two artificial badger setts, the closure of fourteen natural badger setts which occurred within the footprint of the road scheme and the installation of approximately 3,000m of badger fencing. 

Ministry of Defence - HMNB Clyde Provision of Single Persons Accommodation, Argyll & Bute  

Bat activity surveys, external and internal bat roost inspections pertaining to several existing accommodation buildings within HMNB Clyde, prior to their demolition / modification. A European Protected Species license was obtained for the exclusion of a minor summer day roost and the loss of a minor hibernacula roost, prior to the demolition of the building. Mitigation included the provision of bat boxes within nearby woodland including two hibernation boxes.
